Some would argue that 2018 was a breakout year for the tours and activities sector.
Big acquisitions (Booking.com's
acquisition of FareHarbor in April 2018
and that of
Bokun by TripAdvisor
the same month) and the official emergence of Google into the ecosystem illustrated how seriously the industry was taking the sector.
The 12 months of 2019 were less about landmark deals and high-profile launches. The sector was growing up in many ways and facing the same types of questions that most of the other elements in the industry grapple with all the time.
These include connectivity issues, high-value funding rounds, relationships between suppliers and the increasing importance of sustainability in conversations around growth and management.
So it was an ideal time, as the year came to a close at The Phocuswright Conference in November 2019, to discuss these trends and more.
